What is it? Workers’ Compensation is a system of insurance that reimburses an employer for damages that must be paid to an employee because he or she had been injured while working occurring in the course of employment.
Workers’ comp does pay for hospital and medical expenses that are necessary to diagnose and treat the injury. But it also provides disability payments while you are unable to work (typically about two-thirds of your regular salary), and may pay for rehabilitation, retraining, and other benefits as well (DelPo).
Generally a claim under the Missouri Worker’s Compensation Law must be filed with the Division of Worker’s Compensation within two years of the last to occur of the following: the date of the accident; the last payment of workers’ compensation benefits; or the last medical treatment provided; or within three years of the last of those dates if the employer failed to file the Report of Injury with the Division of Worker’s Compensation within the time allowed by law (The Missouri Bar Association).
